X Box Party!!!

In March, we went to the Microsoft store in Yorkdale to attend the Xbox party. The Xbox Party was a private party just for the mentees of Village Blog Gurls . We got the chance to play a variety of games on the Xbox one.

Observation: The games we played had many typical- looking genders. For example, the girls were very curvy but thin, while being very girly. Meanwhile, the guys were muscular and manly.

Our favourite part was when we got into groups and played Just Dance. We danced our hearts out, it was so much fun! I’m so glad that Microsoft gave us the chance to participate in these fabulous activities. I really want an Xbox now! We will remember the Xbox party forever!

March Break Camp by Jessica and Maria

March Break Camp

During March Break we had a camp; it was every day for the week. We watched music videos, which were very funny/annoying!!!!!!!!!!! Like God Made Girls – RaeLynn. It was funny because the way the person portrayed girls, as if girls only existed for boys. Also, Miss Independent – Ne-Yo. I don’t mean to be rude, but the video was annoying because Ne-Yo was staring at the girls and was trying to get the girls to like him.

We went on a trip to a feminist art conference. We learned about different woman artists and what their art was about. It was important because there are not many woman artists that we know of and it’s important for us girls to be represented.

On the last day we baked “meat loaf” it wasn’t really meat loaf, it was carrot and pineapple muffins. But it looked like meat loaf, it was good even though it didn’t look as we expected. We had tacos, chips and sweet potato fries for lunch.

Past, Present, Future by Kayla and Seghen

Girls club is a great experience for many girls like us. We have done many things throughout the years, and this year has been exceptional and maybe our best one yet.
One fantastic trip we are excited for is the overnight Toronto Zoo trip. WE CAN’T WAIT TO SEE WHAT’S IN STORE FOR US!!! All the biodiversity, food and waking up at 6:45 am…. How fabulous!!!! Even though we need our beauty sleep we will do this to have a blast.
But we are getting ahead of ourselves, we haven’t even focused on the past and present.

Near the beginning of the year we had bloggurls’ first mentor/mentee panel. We got to ask for advice for people who have experience or are going through what we are going through. Yes, the mentees ask the mentors questions and vice versa. We asked anything from your favourite colour to how to be the best you, we cannot wait until our next panel because it feels good to know they have your back!
Now the present, we have been working on a new zine about messages we want to portray to those around us. We made art portraying spoofs on magazines. Instead of encouraging women to be what the media wants us to be, we encourage them to be who they want to be and be who they really are.

In conclusion we analyze what we did in the past, we are having fun in the present and are looking forward to new memories ahead of us and a very bright future!
